Honoring individuals who notably advance ASPEN advocacy goals.
ASPEN honors individuals who have significantly impacted its public policy and advocacy goals by tirelessly advocating for patients who rely on parenteral and enteral nutrition with the following awards.

Lyn Howard Nutrition Support Consumer Advocacy Award

ASPEN members often collaborate with patients, families, and caregivers who perform admirable activities and heroically advocate for others like themselves and their families. To recognize those individuals who do so much for nutrition support, this annual recognition is awarded to a patient, family member, or caregiver. This award is named in honor of ASPEN member and Oley Foundation co-founder, Lyn Howard, MB, FRCP. 

Criteria for Lyn Howard Nutrition Support Consumer Advocacy Award
  1. Award nominees must be a patient (EN or PN consumer), or a family member or caregiver of such a patient.
  2. Award nominees must have demonstrated admirable activities which advocate for themselves or others receiving EN or PN.
  3. Award winner or their representative should be able to attend the conference for the upcoming year in order to receive the award.
  4. Award nominees should be (although not absolutely) able to briefly articulate their story at the conference at the award ceremony.

Barney Sellers Public Policy and Advocacy Award

This award recognizes an ASPEN member who significantly advances ASPEN’s advocacy objectives. It is named in honor of Barney Sellers, ASPEN’s former executive director, who had a major impact on public policy during his 15 years in that position.

Criteria for Barney Sellers Public Policy and Advocacy Award
  1. Award nominees must be a member of ASPEN.
  2. Award nominees must have contributed to ASPEN’s advocacy and public policy initiatives
