Practice Tool on Use of Imported Glucose 50% Injection

To support supply during the current IV fluid shortage, the FDA has temporarily authorized international products for importation. One of these products is Glucose 50% Injection, to be used in place of Dextrose Injection USP. Not all facilities will receive the Glucose 50% Injection product, though many will to meet their dextrose allocation.

ASPEN has produced this new practice tool to support clinicians in the conversion from Dextrose Injection USP to Glucose 50% Injection, and it includes case studies for practice. Note that this tool is intended as a supplement and not a replacement for FDA and manufacturer resources.

ASPEN continues to provide resources for clinicians during this time of shortage and remains in conversation with industry, medical societies, and federal agencies to collaborate on how best to provide safe and effective patient care.
