U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.-1) have introduced a resolution designating September 16-20, 2024 as Malnutrition Awareness Week!
Malnutrition and food insecurity impact over 40 million Americans, disproportionately affecting older adults, children, and vulnerable communities. In 2023 alone, seven million American children lived in food-insecure households. Disease-related malnutrition in older adults costs the U.S. more than $51 billion annually.
This resolution acknowledges the efforts of healthcare providers, nutrition professionals, and advocates who are working to combat malnutrition and support programs like Meals on Wheels and SNAP.
