On May 2, 2026, The a2 Milk Company recalled three specific batches of its imported a2 Platinum Premium USA label infant formula, after testing identified the presence of cereulide. The recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Cereulide is a heat-stable toxin produced by some strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus and is therefore not eliminated by preparing the formula with hot water. Illness occurs through the consumption of foods or beverages contaminated with the toxin. Symptoms typically develop within 30 minutes to six hours of ingestion, and include nausea and vomiting that typically self-resolve within 24 hours. Infants are at greater risk due to their developing immune systems and can experience complications such as dehydration, which require medical care.
Although no confirmed incidents of illness or harm have been reported, consumers are advised to NOT use any affected batches of a2 Platinum Premium infant formula.
If your infant develops symptoms, immediately contact your healthcare provider.
