Changes in taste and smell can affect appetite, food choices, nutritional intake, safety, and quality of life. Yet sensory dysfunction is often overlooked in nutrition care. At the ASPEN 2027 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference, renowned nurse scientist Paule V. Joseph, PhD, MBA, MS, FNP-BC, FAAN, will highlight how taste and smell science can inform clinical nutrition practice.
Beyond Flavor: Translating Taste and Smell Science into Patient-Centered Nutrition Care
Dr. Joseph will deliver the ASPEN27 keynote on Sunday, February 14, 2027, from 8:00–9:15 AM CT, with in-person and virtual participation available. The session offers 1.0 CE hour.
Drawing on clinical and translational research, she will examine how chemosensory function intersects with metabolism, brain health, and the patient experience. She will demonstrate how combining patient-reported symptoms, objective sensory assessment, and interprofessional science can help clinicians deliver more precise, patient-centered nutrition care.
