Essential Fatty Acid Deficiency (EFAD) is rare in healthy adults but may be observed in specific populations requiring all forms of nutrition support—oral, enteral, or parenteral. Continuous assessment of these at-risk patients is imperative. Treatment strategies for EFAD will depend on the form of nutrition support provided and require a team of trained nutrition support professionals. This webinar will review the optimal assessment and diagnosis of EFAD and several patient cases that treat EFAD in various clinical settings and nutrition support regimens.
Learning Objectives
- Provide an overview of nutrition support patient risk factors for the development of EFAD.
- Review EFAD assessment tools and proper diagnostic criteria.
- Discuss patient cases from all aspects of nutrition support therapy (oral, EN, PN) and discuss various treatment strategies.
