ASPEN and ESPEN recommend early enteral nutrition and replenishment of protein in critically ill patients. However, the optimal dose of protein to deliver to critically ill patients is unknown. Recent evidence from the EFFORT protein trial suggests that higher protein dose, compared to lower, during the early acute phase of critical illness, did not improve outcomes and may be harmful in subsets of patients. This webinar aims to provide insights into the results, lessons learned, and potential practice changes based on the findings from the EFFORT protein trial.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the state of protein delivery before the results of the EFFORT trial.
  2. Summarize the results of the EFFORT trial.
  3. Discuss the impact of the EFFORT trial on clinical practice and future research.
