ASPEN has published updated recommendations to help clinicians manage shortages of L-cysteine hydrochloride (HCl), a parenteral nutrition (PN) component used primarily for preterm infants.
The ASPEN PN Product Shortage Recommendations: L-Cysteine Hydrochloride provide guidance to support safe patient care and conserve available supplies during shortages. While there is no clinical alternative to L-cysteine HCl, the recommendations outline strategies clinicians may consider to conserve available supplies and prioritize its use.
