Malnutrition Awareness Week 2026: Highlights and Impact

Thanks to our members, ambassadors, corporate sponsors, and society and media partners, Malnutrition Awareness Week™ 2026 (MAW) brought nutrition care education and advocacy to audiences around the world. The campaign generated 16,857 webinar registrations, and 246 ambassador organizations amplified key messages, shared educational webinars and resources, and advanced advocacy in the United States and internationally.

Malnutrition Awareness Week 2026 Highlights

  • MAW messages had an estimated online reach of 2.1 million worldwide.
  • Healthcare professionals from 86 countries participated in the webinars.
  • Senator Chris Murphy introduced S.Res.850, and Representative Suzanne Bonamici introduced H.Res.1538. Both resolutions support Malnutrition Awareness Week.
  • With help from ASPEN members, we submitted proclamation requests to 48 states. So far, we’ve received proclamations from 21 states, plus Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico, officially recognizing Malnutrition Awareness Week 2026.
  • International proclamation requests were submitted in Brazil and Pakistan. In Nigeria, the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN) garnered extensive media coverage for its call to make nutrition care an integral part of hospital treatment.

Share Malnutrition Resources Year-Round

The work continues beyond Malnutrition Awareness Week. Access and share ASPEN’s new resources on malnutrition and inflammatory bowel disease; sarcopenic obesity in older adults; supplemental parenteral nutrition (PN); PN practice gaps and PN in adults with obesity; NICU transitions; infant anthropometric assessment; AI-assisted malnutrition screening; fat malabsorption in preterm neonates; and oral nutritional supplements for chronic kidney disease.

Save the Date: Malnutrition Awareness Week 2027

Malnutrition Awareness Week 2027 will take place September 20–24, 2027. Organizations interested in becoming ambassadors can complete the 2027 MAW Ambassador Interest Form. Ongoing ambassadors do not need to apply again.
